Fashionable Storage With Glass Cabinets

It’s a common problem all over the house when you’re searching for something you know you left in the cupboards but you just can’t seem to find it. No matter how much you scour the shelves the item is nowhere to be found, and you have to open one door after the other to see what’s inside. You might even just be tired of looking at the same old wood doors on them. Truth is the solution can be more obvious than you think.

It’s not spending half a fortune on 200+ random Tupperware containers. Why not turn those boring shelves to a dazzling display with glass doors. Glass can eliminate that age old problem of forgetting where you put that ingredient or keepsake. Since you can see right through the doors you shouldn’t have to spend so much time searching one cupboard after the other. As if that weren’t enough glass doors will look amazing and even if you don’t want it for your food storage there are other uses too.

Another great example would be for those who want to keep precious items like photos, china, porcelain, and other items of sentimental value safe. Protecting these items doesn’t really have to be in a hope chest, out of sight. With a glass cabinet you can put your favorite memories on display for all to see. Even if keeping these things in one piece wasn’t so much of a worry for you, another good reason is to keep them clean.

The objects you place in the cabinet will be less exposed to outer elements like the sun, dust, moisture, or other possible deteriorative factors. Too much direct sunlight can fade and age the paint easily as fast as wiping these keep-sakes off regularly. So remember if there’s a memory or achievement that you’d like to treasure showcase it with glass cabinets, you won’t be sorry you did.

The Impact Of Glass Painting

Glass painting is a very popular art form most commonly found in churches, and holy places the world over. This art provides a beautiful splash of color combined with light and can be truly inspiring. Sadly though many people don’t think of the potential this art form has even for use in the home itself.

People may have different reasons for writing this off for conventional use. Thinking that this style is for religious paintings or icons, or maybe that it’s out of date. Well if that were the case then we probably wouldn’t have heard about it. Glass painting goes as far back as the Egyptians and Romans. Yet for centuries now this style has made its way across Europe, Asia, and now even the whole world. Glass painting is a timeless art, and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon.

Another common misunderstanding might be that glass painting is just for windows. This couldn’t be more wrong. True you may see glass windows every day. But even more true is that many glass surfaces are suitable for painting on, not just windows. So you don’t have to worry about not having enough in a room to go with it. The applications of glass painting is endless. You can obtain anything from three dimensional painted glass figures, to ornamental dishes, boxes, lamps, wall fixtures, and wine glasses. The list doesn’t even end there, but the point is to give you the idea. So the truth is that there are plenty of things to go with a window, or even without one.

Another big turnoff might be the cost. Even though designers can give professional level results they can be really expensive. But there’s a solution to that as well. The common craft stores carry all the supplies you could possibly need. Even including starter kits to get you up and running. These kits can include, various brush types, different paints, an array of tools like cutters, maybe even stencils, and frames. So you don’t have to be a professional to get some decent results. Which also leaves all the creative choice in your hands.

So what if you’re not really the creative type, or you just have trouble coming up with an idea, but you really want a glass painting? Style books are also available giving examples of how different materials and colors can coalesce. These books are filled with all sorts of good ideas that can include seasonal decorations, or themes to fit your liking.

From Small To Big With Mirrors

When you have small rooms in your home, they can easily begin to feel cramped and stuffy. Sometimes, we end up avoiding them, because we’re not sure how to fix the problem. But if you have a small master bedroom, then that’s clearly not an option. So, how can you add the illusion of space to a small master bedroom – without knocking down the walls? Fortunately, the strategic use of mirrors can add space and depth to a small room, transforming it in a space you actually enjoy. Follow these simple tips to turn your small master bedroom into a spacious-looking retreat.

The first step in making a small room look bigger is to determine exactly where your problems lie. Is one area deficient in natural light? Would you like to have more windows than you do? Is your master bedroom too narrow? Assess the current paint job and décor in the room. Is there anything you could possibly use to your advantage when placing mirrors? For some ideas on how painting can add to the illusion of room size, check out this article. Once you’ve figured out what your specific problems are with the room size, you can determine where to place your mirrors to fix them.

For a master bedroom that’s too narrow, try placing mirrors on either side of the narrow space to create the illusion of a wider room.

To make your master bedroom look larger, place decorative mirrors directly across from windows. The mirrors will bounce the light off of them and into the room, brightening the space.

If one of your master bedroom walls is painted darker than the others, place a large mirror on the darker wall to add the illusion of depth.

To create an open look around your bed, try using a large mirror above the head of the bed in place of artwork or a headboard.

For the maximum illusion of space, try using large, unframed mirrors. Place them on the widest wall for narrow rooms, or across from lightly-colored walls or windows.

Try creating a wall arrangement using mirrors of different sizes. Each mirror will reflect light and color, increasing the room’s apparent size.

Lighting effects are especially important in a small room. Try purchasing wall lights with mirror backings, either with candles or electric lights. The mirrors will double the amount of light created, bouncing it back into the room.

Mirrors are often recommended by Feng Shui experts as remedies for small spaces. If a small bedroom has an entryway which forces you to turn to the left or right immediately upon entering, place a mirror on the wall facing the door. This decreases the “blocking” effect of the wall and makes you feel less trapped.

According to Feng Shui experts, if a square or rectangular room has a “missing” piece due to an indent caused by design, you can remedy the look by placing a mirror on the indented wall.

If you have a favorite piece of artwork in your master bedroom, try placing an unframed, large mirror opposite to it. This reflects the artwork into the room – you’ll be able to see it, even if you’re not directly across from the piece.

Hopefully, one or more of these tricks will work to create a larger-looking master bedroom in your home. Mirrors have become a staple for interior decorator’s wishing to increase the apparent size of a space, and they can be used just as effectively by everyday decorators, as well.

The Trouble With Glass Cleaning Undone

Modern design is a great thing, we all know that!

However, sometimes it can be hard to know what the best way to take care of an item is. How do you clean that side table? What’s the best way to clean that mirror in the bathroom? Does this sound familiar…?

Today’s post will look at how glass cleaning can be done with ease and that includes glass cabinet doors, glass tables, windows or any other glass surface you have in your home:

-For an effective, cheap and environmentally friendly cleaning solution mix two parts water with one part vinegar. Adjust this accordingly if you are dealing with tough stains and add more vinegar. Some people also like to use dish washing liquid if a stain is hard to beat.

-Don’t worry about your home smelling of vinegar, the smell soon evaporates once the windows or glass are clean!

– Prepare the surface you plan to clean by going over it to remove any traces of dust before you begin the wet clean. If there is dust there when you begin cleaning with the vinegar solution it will contaminate the cloth.

– For jobs that are smaller like cleaning mirrors or glass tables you will find that using a spray bottle will give you the best results. You will also need the same lint-free towel and a micro-fibre cloth as mentioned before.

Spray the solution onto the surface and then use the lint-free towel to pick up the majority of the dirt and liquid.

Once you’ve done this, finish the job off by gently going over the surface with the micro-fiber cloth.

– For bigger glass cleaning jobs like large surfaces such as windows you will need a squeegee, a lint free towel, a bucket, a normal sponge and a special micro-fiber cloth created especially for using on glass.

-To clean picture frames simply spray a small amount of solution straight onto the micro-fiber cloth and polish.

-Try not to clean windows in direct sunlight as the sun makes the window dry unevenly and too quickly which leaves streaks on the surface. If you do want to clean in direct sunlight use a squeegee.

Brightening Up Your Home With Decorative Glass

Accu~1~Glass | Decorative GlassOut of all the materials out there, glass is already used in most of our homes. Using decorative glass as home décor is rarely thought of. Rather than it’s considered utilitarian. Glass can come in several forms from glazing, to counter tops and decorative walls. Whether you enjoy using glass to bring in the morning sun, or a hundred other purposes, glass can be overlooked when customizing home interiors. Here are some ways to let glass brighten your home.

Reflectivity and light: What’s the number one interior design trick of all times? The presence of light. Light makes a room feel larger, more comfortable, and more natural. Glass brings in light naturally to your home and it can be used to obscure, brighten, and enhance views. Windows that have mullions or expansive glass that takes advantage of picturesque views, glass is a miracle worker for reflecting light and illuminating surfaces.

Glass furniture: Tables, chairs, mirrors… the list goes on and on of glass furnishings that we use daily that we love. Glass table tops in dining rooms and home offices give a sophisticated and executive styling to your interiors. Pair glass with wood, leather, and metals for an urban industrial aesthetic or use traditional and ornate lines to bring the materials together beautifully in your furniture.

Unique applications: Ever thought of installing a glass counter top in your kitchen, or a glass wall in your bathroom? Modern home interiors are starting to use glass in unique ways, than they used to. If you want to add sleek and modern details, add glass to your wet areas such as kitchens and bathrooms. Consider glass as a divider walls between a master bedroom area and a master bathroom. Glass block can let light through, and keep ample privacy at the same time. Try using different glass materials for all rooms in your home.

Use glass as your exterior material: In early architecture and interiors, glass was solely used as punched openings in walls to let in light, and to have a visual connection to the outdoor world. Today, the use of glass in exterior sheathing is popular, especially in high rise commercial buildings. In your home if you like to be connected with your exterior, use wide expansive glass and glass furniture interiors to transform the outdoors inside.

Be creative: There are very few limits with glass. Heat and cold variations are the most notable features that need to be thought of when using glass in your interiors. There is always a solution; a thicker pane of glass may need to be used in colder climates, etc… Glass has been used in minimalist areas to bring a sense of light and airiness to a space. See where it can brighten up a space in your interiors.

If you want to use glass in small or large quantities, your space will benefit either way. From reflective glass mosaic tiles in the kitchen backsplash, to glass block stepping stones in your front entry, glass is here to stay. Depending on your style, grab inspiration from modern architecture and interior magazines that love to feature homes with expansive glass. Brighten your home with these tips, and see how glass can give you a whole new way to enjoy your home.

When to Repair or Replace Windshields

Accu~1~Glass | Auto Glass Replacement/Repair ServicesThere was a time when chips or cracks in a windshield meant replacement. Now it’s a lot harder to know when to repair or replace windshields. Modern technology makes it possible to repair windshields that would have previously been scrapped. Not only does this save your windshield, it also saves you money. But be aware that even the most advanced glass repair techniques have their limits. So if your windshield is severely damaged, new glass may still be in your future. Do I have to replace my windshield or can it be repaired? Windshield repair or replacement depends on the size, location and severity of the damage. The majority of windshield repair shops can repair quarter-sized rock chips and cracks up to three inches long. Anything bigger and most places will recommend replacement. However, some facilities use a special technique that allows them to repair cracks up to 12 inches long. So it pays to check around before committing to a new windshield. Location of the damage also plays an important role in determining your windshield’s fate. Cracks at the edge of the windshield tend to spread very quickly and can compromise the structural integrity of the glass. If they’re caught in time, they can be repaired. But in most cases, it’s usually advisable to replace the windshield. Also be aware that some facilities may not repair a chip that appears directly in the driver’s line of vision. Because the repair process leaves minor distortions in the glass, some shops prefer to replace the windshield rather than compromise the driver’s vision. Regardless of the size and location of a chip or crack, it’s always advisable to have it repaired quickly. If you wait some time to repair it, dirt can work its way into the damaged area, affecting the effectiveness and clarity of the repair. Finally, bear in mind that if your windshield took a big enough hit, it may simply be beyond saving. Major impacts (BIG objects) or accident damage go beyond what any repair facility can fix. In these severe cases, replacement is a must. How much will this cost? The cost to repair a windshield is pretty standard across the country. According to an MSN Auto Survey, windshield repair facilities across the country are fairly consistent. Repairing a single rock chip costs around $40-$50 for the first chip, then usually $10 extra for each additional chip. The cost to repair most cracks is about the same. However, if the crack is longer than three inches, it may require special treatment. Long-crack specialist Novus typically charges about $70 to repair a six- to twelve-inch windshield crack. Windshield replacement costs considerably more and varies greatly depending on the vehicle. In addition to the cost of the windshield itself, a windshield molding kit and installation labor must be factored into the overall replacement cost.

Accu~1~Glass | Storefront Glass Windows & Your Logo – DIY Style

Accu~1~Glass | Storefront GlassIf you have a store, you will want people to recognize your presence and what better way than to paint your logo on the storefront glass windows? It makes the store visible and it provides excellent advertising. You could employ a sign painter to do the job but it’s not difficult to do it yourself. It takes a little work but the result on your storefront glass will be worth every moment of effort.

Step 1 – Cleaning the Window
You can’t paint a new logo on the storefront window until the glass is sparkling clean. If there are any remnants of an old logo, you’ll need to remove those first.

Use paint remover to get rid of old features then use a good quality window cleaner on the storefront glass, wiping it with a clean, soft cloth. Go over it several times to make sure you get rid of all the grease and fingerprints that will have accumulated over the years. Once you’re satisfied that it’s clean, leave it to dry completely.

Step 2 – Logo Design
You might already have a logo for your business that you want to transfer to your storefront glass. Trace it onto graph paper. If not, you can use simple page layout software to design one on your computer. Alternatively, if you have an artist friend, have them design one to your specifications and put it on your computer.

When you’ve done this, take the image to a print shop. They will be able to enlarge the image to a size that is right for your storefront window. With this, you’ll be able to trace the image onto the glass, ready for painting.
If you’ve put the existing logo onto graph paper, trace a grid into your glass and use freehand drawing to create the logo, working grid by grid. Use chalk or a grease pencil to make the image on the window.

Step 3 – Painting
Before you begin painting, put masking tape around the edge of the storefront glass where it meets the wood. This will stop you accidentally painting over from the glass into the window frame. Rub down the area to be painted lightly with wire wool to promote adhesion and wipe the area clean afterwards.

Using a small brush and non-water-based glass paints in the preferred colors to paint your logo on the storefront glass. Ceramic paints are usually the best for glass. Don’t be afraid to go slowly; it’s more important to have it looking good than to finish quickly. If you make a mistake, clean it up with the ceramic paint thinner which can also be used to thin the paint if it’s too thick. Just be careful not to thin it too much. If you take a break, clean your brush immediately otherwise the bristles will gum up with the paint.

You can achieve a better effect by putting on 2 or more coats of paint. Be sure to let each coat dry thoroughly before applying the next. When you’ve finished, remove the masking tape and clean up any stray paint with the ceramic thinner. Once the storefront glass is completely dry, which will take at least 8 hours, clean it again with the window cleaner until it sparkles and shows off your new logo.
